Thank you for your interest in the nomination process for the 11th Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Western New York.  Nominations for Bishop are now closed.  We invite you to monitor this process via this web site and bid your prayers for guidance and discernment during our search and election.

Guidelines for Nominations Print E-mail

Guidelines for Making Nominations for the 11th Bishop of Western New York

  1. Any person 18 years of age or older who is a confirmed or received communicant in good standing in this Church is welcome to submit a nomination to the search committee.
  2. Clergy may not nominate themselves as candidates for election.
  3. The Nominator must first obtain the permission of the Nominee they are proposing prior to submitting their nomination.
  4. Please make nominations by completing and submitting the Nomination Form.
  5. The search committee will accept nominations no later than December 31, 2009

Please read our Profile very carefully, and consider prayerfully whether or not the Holy Spirit is calling you to apply.  Please recognize that this process is one of mutual discernment.  We want this to be an enjoyable experience for you and for us, and we promise that we will do all in our power to make it so. The submission process is automated using our website. To apply please submit the following:

  1. Your resume;
  2. Your Church Deployment Office (CDO) Personal Profile;
  3. The written answers to our four questions. Please limit the answer to each question to 500 words or less;
  4. The contact information for three individuals ready to provide references.

Your application will not be considered complete until a Nomination Form is submitted on your behalf.

The Search Committee must receive these documents online using the nomination form.

The open period for applications  and nominations is October 19 - December 31, 2009.

October Education at Deanery pre-convention sessions about gifts/skills needed on Transition Committee

The Standing Committee makes appointments to the Transition Committee.
November 13-14 The Transition Committee meets for an organizing retreat with the Standing Committee and Consultant.

January Search Committee reviews applications;
selects those who will be interviewed by telephone
February Search Committee conducts telephone interviews
March Search Committee checks references
April Search Committee evaluate telephone interviews and references;
decide which candidates to visit in home parishes
May Members of the Search Committee visit candidates in home parishes
June Search Committee invites candidates to visit Western New York
July 24 Search Committee determine four final candidates
by August 16 Deliver names of final candidates to Standing Committee
